UPC-A barcode ( plus UPC-E, EAN-13, EAN-8, ISBN and Bookland), is everywhere today.
EAN13 barcode encodes 12 digits of numeric data and a check digit. What EAN13 encodes is also called GTIN13.
UPCA barcode encodes 11 digits of numeric data plus a check digit. UPC-A can be considered to be a subset of EAN13 with the first number system digit set to zero.
What UPC-A encodes is also called GTIN12.
Bookland barcode is a variation of EAN-13 barcode that always start with number "978".
UPCE, EAN8 encodes 8 digits data plus a check digit. What UPCE and EAN8 encodes is also called GTIN8.
UPC-A, EAN13 and Bookland require checksum digit to be appended at rear end of data.
