Proxmox Mail Gateway is a full-featured, open-source mail proxy and protects your mail server from spam, viruses, trojans, and phishing emails. It is deployed between the firewall and your internal mail server where it analyzes and filters incoming as well as outgoing email traffic. This reduces the load on your servers and helps to increase resource utilization.

Support statement for VMware vSphere installations:
Proxmox will provide support for Proxmox Mail Gateway running in a VMware virtual environment in an identical manner as with Proxmox Mail Gateway running on any other major x86 based systems, without initially requiring reproduction of issues on native hardware. Should the Proxmox support team suspect that the virtualization layer is the root cause of an incident; the customer will be required to contact the appropriate VMware support provider to resolve the VMware issue. While Proxmox products are expected to function properly in a VMware virtual environment, there may be performance implications which can invalidate Proxmox typical sizing and recommendations.
