In 2014 D&T/SHRAIL developed SIMUGENS, a software for crowd simulation, able to reproduce the behavior of large number of individuals in various situations, successfully used for small and mid scale crowd dynamics analyses.
In 2020, following the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus, SIMUGENS has been expanded with a set of functionalities focused on the dynamics of the infections in large crowds and on the evaluation of possible mitigation solutions.
SIMUGENS INFECTION can simulate individual infections based on people distance and exposure time as well as infective objects or surfaces, calculating infection rates over time. The SIMUGENS functions for infection simulation include:
Agent-based, continuous-space crowd simulator.Graphical user interface, supporting interactive visual editing.Advanced output, updated in real time, based on 2D layout visualization, data tables, interactive charts.
Real-time OpenGL 3D visualization, with color-code results or human-looking crowd representation.
Supported file formats
CSV (table data input) DXF
layout import
CSV (table data output)
AVI (2D/3D movie output)
System Requirements
Windows XP to 10
2GB RAM
40 Mb disk space
Airflow integration
In order to better represent the possible infection mechanism, SIMUGENS INFECTIONS has been provided with the possibility to import and use airflow data produced by CFD simulations.
The airflow information is used to calculate the propagation of droplets produced by infected individuals inside the simulated crowd, allowing a better evaluation of the infection between individuals.
The combination of airflow and crowd simulations is a unique possibility to represent together the two complex and non-linear aspects of the infection.
