Actual Technologies ODBC drivers let Mac OS X users connect to enterprise databases using common desktop applications such as Microsoft Excel and FileMaker Pro. All drivers feature native installers, setup assistants, and on-line help to get you connected to your database as quickly as possible.
Actual ODBC Driver for SQL Server & Sybase
Use this driver to connect to your company's Microsoft SQL Server or Sybase databases. This driver installs completely on your Mac - nothing is installed on the server itself. Both methods of SQL Server authentication are supported: SQL Server native accounts and trusted domain accounts. There is no special configuration of the database required for you to connect - all you need is a user ID and password.
The Actual SQL Server ODBC Driver lets you access your company's Microsoft SQL Server database from within Microsoft Excel or FileMaker Pro. You can connect to any database you are authorized to use, and work with the data just like your Windows-using co-workers. The driver also connects to Sybase databases.
Microsoft Excel has built-in support for ODBC database queries. Use our ODBC driver to connect Excel to your company's SQL Server database. Then you can use the information from the database in your spreadsheet formulas and charts and graphs.
The driver includes a setup assistant that will walk you through setting up a connection to your database. On-line help is always available to provide explanations of all parameters. For simple connections, you only need to specify 2 fields! All installation takes place on your Mac - nothing is installed on the server.
In addition to local databases, the driver now supports cloud-based solutions. The Microsoft Azure SQL Database is a great way to enjoy the benefits of a scaleable and reliable database with near-zero maintenance. And Amazon Relational Database Service (RDS) provides a fast and easy way to configure multiple SQL Server versions in the cloud. The Actual Technologies ODBC driver makes it easy to connect to both of these great cloud-based databases in just a few clicks
IT support staff typically don't like to install special software on their servers - software that could affect the reliability or performance of a critical resource. That's why our driver resides only on the client Mac, and communicates with the database software that already exists on the server.
Our driver supports both methods of SQL Server authentication - SQL Server accounts and trusted domain accounts. This means that no special configuration of the database is needed in order for you to connect. You just need an account, using whatever authentication method your organization has chosen.
In addition, anyone who is already familiar with setting up an ODBC connection on Microsoft Windows will be right at home using our setup assistant. Our driver uses the same terminology and we've organized our screens similarly.
You can use our driver to access a SQL Server database from your own custom applications - including PHP and REALbasic. Example source code is now available for Carbon, REALbasic, and PHP, and we will soon be providing tutorials and example source code for other languages. Many commercial applications take advantage of ODBC connectivity using this driver.
Actual ODBC Driver for Oracle
Our ODBC driver for Oracle will let you use Excel and FileMaker Pro to import data from your enterprise Oracle database. Everything you need to get connected is included with the installer - there's no need to download additional client software from Oracle. Works great with the latest Oracle 10g, as well as older versions of Oracle.
Use Excel and FileMaker Pro to Connect to Your Database
With Microsoft Excel's built-in support for ODBC database queries, you can quickly create pivot tables and charts and graphs from data in your company's database. You can also use FileMaker to create great looking reports from your Oracle data. Experienced FileMaker users can write simple scripts for writing data back to the Oracle database.
Connect to Your Database in the Cloud
In addition to local databases, the driver now supports Amazon Relational Database Service(RDS). RDS provides a fast and easy way to configure an Oracle database in the cloud, with a variety of editions and licensing options available. The Actual Technologies ODBC driver makes it easy to connect to this cloud-based Oracle database in just a few clicks.
Easy Installation and Setup
The driver includes a setup assistant that will walk you through setting up a connection to your database. On-line help is always available to provide explanations of all parameters. For simple connections, you only need to specify 2 fields! All installation takes place on your Mac - nothing is installed on the server.
Everything you need to connect to your database is included with the installer - there's no need to install the Oracle client software or edit configuration files. You just need to know the IP address of your server and the name of your database. The driver will connect to any Oracle database version 7.3.4 or later, running on any server platform. The only requirement is that the Oracle TNS Listener must be installed and running on the server (this is the default in most cases).
Actual ODBC Driver for Open Source Databases
Now you can use Excel and FileMaker Pro to easily connect to your MySQL, PostgreSQL or SQLite database. This driver includes a setup assistant that helps you get connected with the reliability and ease of use you've come to expect as a Macintosh user. The setup assistant includes connection diagnostics and on-line help. You'll be creating FileMaker reports with your MySQL, PostgreSQL or SQLite data in no time!
Use FileMaker Pro and Excel to Connect to Your Database
FileMaker Pro is great for creating great looking reports, and now you can use it with data from your MySQL, PostgreSQL or SQLite database. You can also harness the full power of Excel's built-in support for ODBC database queries to create pivot tables and charts and graphs from your data.
Easy Installation and Setup
A helpful setup assistant will guide you through the process of connecting to your database. Handy diagnostic tools and on-line help are there if you need it. And Actual Technologies' knowlegable support staff is always there to assist you if you have trouble.
Actual ODBC Driver for Microsoft Access
With the ODBC driver for Access, you can connect to Microsoft Access databases and import data directly into an Excel spreadsheet or a FileMaker database. There is no need for an intermediary Windows PC - this driver reads data from the database file itself. The driver supports Access 97 or later, including Access 2003.
Get Connected to CoreData
Apple's CoreData technology is built on top of SQLite, so many of your favorite applications use SQLite databases to store information. You can use this driver to access that information using an ODBC-enabled application such as FileMaker. For example, you can import your Safari RSS articles into an Excel spreadsheet, or import your Mail data into FileMaker. See our partial list of applications using a SQLite database.
Like CoreData, Xojo's built-in database is also based on SQLite. If you develop software with Xojo, you can give your users the ability to generate reports using Excel and FileMaker from the data stored in your database.
Actual ESS Adapter
The Actual ESS Adapter lets you use Postgres and DB2 databases with the "External SQL Sources" (ESS) feature of FileMaker 16. The adapter is available on Mac OS X and Windows. On OS X, it works in conjunction with the Actual Open Source Databases driver to connect to Postgres. On Windows, it integrates with native ODBC drivers for Postgres and IBM DB2.
The Actual ESS Adapter is a special type of ODBC driver*. The adapter takes data from a native ODBC driver and presents it to FileMaker in a way that it can be used with ESS.
One of the great things about ESS is that when a FileMaker database is hosted on FileMaker Server, you only need to install the adapter and ODBC drivers on the server.*An ODBC driver provides an application with a standard way of communicating with a database.
