ONLYOFFICE Docs 8.2 released: PDF collaborative editing, revamped interface, optimized performance, RTL in sheets, and more
The latest version of our online editors is already available with around 30 new features and more than 500 bug fixes across the suite. Read on to discover all the updates.
We continue to further enhance our native PDF editor. Starting from this release, co-editing is available for PDF files as well.
By default, Strict co-editing – paragraph-locking collaboration – is enabled when switching to the editing mode. It means that the changes are saved upon hitting the “Save” button. To enable real-time co-editing, just select the Fast mode.
Where to find: Edit PDF / Editing mode via top switcher
Please note: to open a PDF file for viewing only, you need to select the corresponding option in the file manager.
Welcome the first version of signatures for PDF forms. You are now able to sign your forms by inserting an image. In the next releases, we are going to improve this feature and add further types of inserting a signature, including digital signatures which are currently available in ONLYOFFICE desktop app.
Where to find: Forms tab -> Signature field (for PDF forms)
Welcome the upgraded interface for all the editors! From now on, you can decide whether to display tabs in the fill (already familiar to everyone) or line (underlining the tab titles) style.
Besides, it’s now also possible to use the toolbar color as the background color for tabs.
Where to find: File tab -> Advanced Settings -> Appearance -> Tab style + Use toolbar color as tabs background
Don’t want to be distracted by any colors in the editor interface, and don’t want to use the dark theme for that? Set the newly added Gray theme.
Where to find: View tab -> Interface Theme -> Gray
Faster file loading. To speed up opening of the editors, we optimized loading scripts. Here are some results in percentages if comparing with the previous version:
Zero-downtime deployment. It’s a great way to update an application without requiring any pauses. So, it’s possible to upgrade the editors without having to take it offline.
This upgrade type is available for ONLYOFFICE Docs delivered as Kubernetes Shards.
Field codes. These placeholders can be utilized to automatically update changing data in your document, such as page numbers, author names, dates, time, etc. They serve as a helpful tool for streamlining document creation.
Where to find: Insert tab -> Field
Collaboration. Need to recover deleted text in an important file? No problem! Access the version history of your document and check the corresponding option to see the removed sentences.
Where to find: File or Collaboration tab -> Version History -> Highlight deleted
Text insertion from third-party sources. Add new content to your document by inserting text from the local, URL, or storage files.
Where to find: Insert tab -> Text from File
Arabic preset numbering. A new numbering preset is now available in the quick access menu for the users with the enabled Arabic interface.
Where to find: Home tab -> Numbering
Support for iterative calculations. With the iterative calculation option activated, you can specify how many times (iterations) the spreadsheet editor runs through a formula chain to calculate a result, usually so as to converge on an outcome of acceptable precision.
Where to find: File tab -> Calculating -> Enable iterative calculation (Maximum iterations, Maximum change)
Updates for Pivot Tables. The corresponding tab is now hidden by default and is displayed only when opening a pivot table. Also, when adding a new pivot table, the right settings panel opens immediately for more comfortable working.
Where to find: Pivot Table tab
Smooth scrolling. Following the requests of our users, we fixed the scroll behavior in the spreadsheet editor. It’s now more comfortable to scroll in sheets, especially in large files which contain cells with multiple lines within.
Quick access to the Comma style button. It is now available on the toolbar to set the number format with separators in a more straightforward way.
Where to find: Home tab
Drawing on slides. The digital pen allows you to draw on the screen (in one color) to highlight important points or illustrate connections in your presentation. In the slide show mode, drawing will be available later.
Where to find: Draw tab
Random transition. Want to add some spontaneity to your slides? Use the Random transition. This means that any of the available transition effects will be applied to your slides in random order, every time starting the slideshow.
Where to find: Transitions tab
We are constantly improving localization of ONLYOFFICE Docs to make our suite accessible to all users, all over the world.
Refining RTL support is one of the most important directions for us. With this release, we made another step and added RTL support in the spreadsheet editor, with correct alignment of cells on the sheet.

Enhanced Smart Arts. For some Smart Arts, we added generation of the visual part (previously, the visual part from the file was used for display). So, the editors can now display Smart Arts even if the file doesn’t contain the visual part or it is set incorrectly.
More chart types. The Histogram, Waterfall, and Funnel charts are now available for viewing when opening docs, sheets, and slides with the specified chart types included.
