Managed File Transfer for Windows

CompleteFTP Enterprise MFT is a trusted managed file transfer solution used in a wide range of industries and corporations.

A feature-packed managed file transfer (MFT) solution.

CompleteFTP Enterprise MFT provides secure, reliable file transfers within your business premises or in the cloud.

State of the art encryption

Our bestselling CompleteFTP file transfer server is designed to provide cryptographic excellence in a world fraught with digital peril. Our developers have created a world ranking product which follows the highest cryptographic standards. Whether you are aiming to secure your company network for safe use by your employees, or whether you simply wish to provide secure communication and negotiation with your business clients or customers, you can rest assured that we are updating our product regularly with the latest algorithms, ciphers and key exchange methods. If you are using HTTPS, FTPS or SFTP our product has your security in mind.

Our development team are constantly monitoring changes in the latest cryptographic and encryption standards, and upgrading our software to keep pace with modern developments.

High performance

Customers report that CompleteFTP performs extremely well in terms of the number of simultaneous users and the number of simultaneous file transfers it is capable of supporting on a single machine. Furthermore, the clustering capabilities of CompleteFTP Enterprise MFT, allow it load balance high-volume traffic across a large number of servers.

Availability and fail-over

Available with our CompleteFTP Enterprise Edition. our clustering support provides synchronized server configurations across the cluster. Typical deployment architecture is an active/active cluster setup. A single instance of the CompleteFTP Manager can control all the servers in the cluster.

When server administrators wish to change the server configuration, these changes are propagated to every machine in the cluster. As most clusters use shared network storage or separate file synchronization software or hardware, CompleteFTP does not currently synchronize files.

Unlimited users

Every edition of CompleteFTP can be used with an unlimited number of users. CompleteFTP grows with your business. As you require more users - you are able to add them at no extra cost. All editions include non-windows users which you can configure at your will. Additionally all of our paid editions include adding Windows users.

Two-factor authentication

CompleteFTP Enterprise MFT Edition supports Two Factor Authentication (2FA) through the use of Google's free Google Authenticator app and other compatible applications. It can be enabled by checking a single checkbox. Once enabled, web users will be required to install the app and activate the site before they can access CompleteFTP via HTTP/HTTPS. 2FA is not currently supported in protocols other than HTTP and HTTPS. It is, however, compatible with all authenticators available in CompleteFTP, such as SAML, Active Directory, external database and custom authenticators.

Deploy in the Cloud

All editions of CompleteFTP can be installed on cloud services such as Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services. Once a virtual machine has been created and remote desktop access to it has been obtained, installing CompleteFTP on it is no different to installing it on a local PC - you download the installer and run it. Of course, the cloud service's firewall will need to be configured appropriately to allow external users access to the server.

Licensing works like any other server installation. We are planning a modification of the licensing system to cater for those customers that regularly tear down and rebuild their virtual machines.

What is Managed File Transfer (MFT)?

Traditional file transfer tools use protocols such as FTP to move files from one place to another, perhaps combined with scripting. Managed file transfer (MFT) is next generation file transfer software that allows users to automate and streamline their file transfers. MFT software:

MFT solutions are widely used in banking and financial services, insurance, retail, healthcare, and manufacturing, all of which heavily rely on transferring data.

Why use CompleteFTP Enterprise MFT?

Our MFT Edition is based on a tried and tested secure file server solution, and has an incredible range of features. With thousands of customers over a wide range of industries, you can be confident your file transfer needs will be satisfied.

CompleteFTP is the culmination of more than fifteen years of development by staff with unrivaled expertise in secure transfer technologies. We have evolved a range of highly performant, robust, reliable, and innovative file transfer products for almost two decades.

Security

CompleteFTP Enterprise MFT supports all the secure protocols you’d expect, such as FTPS, SFTP, SCP and HTTPS, as well as encryption at rest (EAR). Your files are secure whether they're in transit or stored on your server. Two-factor authentication is also supported.

Security is the primary consideration for all versions of CompleteFTP, but Enterprise MFT includes additional security features not found in the Standard and Professional Editions.

One important security feature is Encryption at Rest (EAR). If enabled, this ensures all files transferred to your server are automatically encrypted as they are written to disk. Only administrators will be able to decrypt the files. EAR is invisible to users transferring files to and from the server.

Another key security feature for web applications hosted on CompleteFTP is Two Factor Authentication (2FA). Having two separate authentication requirements makes it far more difficult for trespassers to gain access to the site. Our 2FA integrates Google authentication, and so users must generate a one-time password using the Google authenticator app to log in, in addition to their password.

Finally, the multiprotocol gateway enables CompleteFTP to provide a secure front-end to legacy servers that may not be as secure. For example, a server that does not support secure FTP can be placed behind CompleteFTP, which can offer a secure protocol such as SFTP to external users.

Integration

Easy integration with Active Directory, Azure and Amazon AWS. Custom extensions allow integration with customer-specific systems.

Enterprise MFT supports a wide variety of services out of the box. Active Directory (AD) users are seamlessly integrated, while both Azure file shares and Amazon S3 buckets can be mounted as folders in the file system. Google cloud integration is coming soon!

Enterprise MFT also has very flexible custom integration support. Users can authenticate via external databases, or write their own custom .NET authentication extensions that use external systems. Extensions can also be used to create filesystems that read from and write to external systems. They can be programmed in .NET or in Javascript, giving your developers the ability to extend CompleteFTP's abilities in ways that may be specific to your business.

File sharing

Use our MFT Edition to host your own file sharing server, either based in your own private premises, or in the cloud. Let users share their files by a secure web link. Unlimited numbers of users are supported.

CompleteFTP Professional and EnterpriseDT support file-sharing. Files may be shared either from within the Web file manager or using the CompleteBox Windows app. A shared file may be accessed via a web link and may optionally be protected with a password. The web link can be copied-and-pasted into an email or sent via IM, allowing the recipient to access the file. This is a fast and efficient way to share files of any size, including extremely large ones. Users don't even have to wait for the file to finish uploading before sharing the link, as CompleteFTP allows it to be downloaded as it's being uploaded.

CompleteBox, the perfect companion for CompleteFTP

Easy to install, CompleteBox allows users to share files by a simple drag-and-drop operation, file selection dialogue or via the Windows File Explorer. Sharing a file uploads it to your CompleteFTP server, and generates a link which can be sent to anyone who you wish to give access to the file - inside your organization or externally. The link can be password protected, enabling secure sharing when safekeeping is a priority.

CompleteBox is included with our Professional and Enterprise MFT Edition. It is installed independently on client machines. Our Professional Edition comes with 50 CompleteBox licenses included, whilst our Enterprise MFT Edition offers you 1000 licenses for you to distribute to your important clients.

Importantly, sharing links can be set to expire after a pre-set time period. CompleteBox is a very useful addition to CompleteFTP and makes it definitely worth upgrading to the Professional or Enterprise MFT Edition.

Automation

CompleteFTP enables a range of different actions to be triggered by events, such as the transfer of files to and from the server. Since such transfers often originate from workflows on client machines, the CompleteFTP Enterprise MFT suite of products, includes the CompleteAgent client, which will automatically transfer files as soon as they're moved into designated directories. CompleteAgent may be installed as a Windows service or run from the command-line on an unlimited number of machines.

Automation is an important feature of enterprise systems that involve file transfer. Typically, files are generated by one corporate application automatically, and require transferring to another machine for processing and importation into another corporate application. Over time, a complex web of transfers can develop, often tied together with scripts written in various languages that poll for expected files that will appear.

The CompleteFTP Enterprise MFT edition can help in several ways. It supports the use of what we call process triggers - scripts that are run automatically after a file transfer, or a related event has occurred. For example, if a file is transferred to the server, a process trigger might reformat the file and transfer it elsewhere, or perhaps import it into a different corporate application.

Sometimes, it is necessary to automatically transfer files to or from a machine that does not have CompleteFTP installed. This is where CompleteAgent comes in - a client-side application that can be installed on any number of machines. It monitors a directory for newly arrived files and transfers them to the designated CompleteFTP server. It can also monitor a remote directory on the server and download files that appear to the local machine. CompleteAgent runs silently as a Windows service.

Customization

Our MFT Edition has unrivalled customization capabilities. We have a comprehensive Javascript API that enables access to almost all our server’s functionality. Write your own authentication and file system extensions.

The ability to be customized to meet the varied needs of an organization is an important feature of enterprise software. CompleteFTP Enterprise MFT has extensive capabilities in this area. There are two main ways to customize - by events and by extensions.

Events are things that happen on the server. For example, a file download or a file upload is an event. Scripts can be written that are triggered at the time the event occurs. So, when a file is uploaded, the custom script is run. Typically, the script will process the file in some manner, perhaps adding data to a database or sending the file on elsewhere. We call these Process Triggers.

Authentication is the process of determining whether a login attempt should succeed - that the supplied username and credentials matches a valid account on the server. Users can write their own custom authentication extensions, either in .NET or in Javascript

Extensions can also be written to create custom filesystems. For example, an extension could be written that made an internal corporate database appear to CompleteFTP as just another filesystem, and it can be mounted as a directory. When users upload to this directory, their file is written to the database instead of to disk.

CompleteFTP Frequently Asked Questions

Which protocols does CompleteFTP support?

CompleteFTP supports FTP, FTPS, SFTP, SCP and SSH (from version 4.0).

FTPS is often described as FTP over an SSL connection, while SFTP is file transfer secured by SSH. SCP is an earlier form of secure copy which is also over SSH. CompleteFTP also supports SSH terminals.

The Standard Edition supports FTP, FTPS and SFTP.

Both SCP and SSH are additionally supported in the Professional Edition.

How does CompleteFTP licensing work?

Licenses are per server

CompleteFTP licenses are purchased per server - one license for each machine that CompleteFTP is running on.

Licenses don't expire

When a license is purchased, it includes 12 months of technical support and upgrades.

The license never expires, and so it can be used perpetually without ever renewing technical support. Renewal of technical support is required to continue having access to upgrades and for assistance when required.

Transferring licenses

CompleteFTP licenses can be transferred between machines by using the "Release License" option on the installed machine. This converts the license on the installed machine to a 30 day license, and frees up the license to apply to another machine.

Corporate licensing

A corporate license can be purchased which allows unlimited deployments within your organization. It is cost-effective for more than 20 installations. You can upgrade to a corporate license, and we'll deduct the cost of licenses you have already purchased.

What CompleteFTP edition should I choose?

For most purchasers, the Professional Edition is the appropriate choice.

The Professional Edition supports all standard protocols such as FTP, FTPS, SFTP, SCP, HTTP & HTTPS. It supports Windows domain users, event notifications and process triggers, quotas, SSH terminal access and advanced file permissions.

The Standard Edition is for those who want the minimum features of FTP, FTPS and SFTP for the lowest possible price.

The Enterprise Edition should be considered by those who want to add custom functionality of their own to CompleteFTP, or who need multiple sites supported on the one server. The Enterprise Edition also now has the multi-protocol gateway for adding secure access to other servers, or for protocol translation.

Which versions of SSL and TLS does CompleteFTP support?

CompleteFTP supports SSL 3.0, and TLS 1.0, TLS 1.1 and TLS 1.2.
