Trust CompleteFTP to securely transfer your files, every time. Take control of your data flows.

The most customizable SFTP Server for Windows

Trust CompleteFTP to securely transfer your files, every time. Take control of your data flows.

The best SFTP server for Windows

Companies worldwide rely on CompleteFTP to securely transfer confidential files. It is easy to install, has a powerful set of features, and is a highly customizable SFTP server for Windows. Best of all, you get all the features of our most expensive competitors for a better price.

You can choose from our SFTP server for Windows editions or select our Managed File Transfer (MFT) Enterprise edition.

The Professional Edition and MFT Enterprise Edition include user licenses for CompleteBox file-sharing. You can easily upgrade between editions if you find you require more advanced features.

Our customers say that CompleteFTP is easy to use, cost-effective, and requires very little administrative attention.

Features

CompleteFTP features FTP / FTPS / SFTP / SCP support

Our customer surveys show that CompleteFTP’s rich functionality is one of the primary reasons people choose CompleteFTP server over competitor products. Key features are outlined below.

Please note that CompleteFTP comes in four editions, and only the Enterprise MFT Edition has all features.

SFTP (Secure File Transfer Protocol) is the industry standard for secure file transfers, and is supported in the Standard, Professional, and Enterprise MFT Editions of CompleteFTP.

While FTPS plays exactly the same role, SFTP is far easier to configure with firewalls, and so is often preferred over FTPS. The Professional and Enterprise MFT Editions also support SSH (Secure Shell), SCP (Secure Copy), and SSH forwarding / tunnelling. SSH allows users to login via a terminal session, while SCP is a protocol specifically intended for secure copying of files that existed before SFTP.

FTP/FTPS is the trusted workhorse of the file transfer family of protocols. As a non-secure transfer protocol, FTP has largely been superceded by its secure cousin, FTPS. FTPS is built on the universal TLS standard for secure networking, meaning files cannot be eavesdropped upon during the transfer process, even if it is across the Internet.

The usual capabilities and configuration settings are supported, such as resuming of transfers, active and passive modes, and implicit and explicit FTPS. Admins can also permit or ban anonymous logins, set an external IP address for passive transfers, and apply the appropriate port range for those data connections. Individual users can be permitted or denied the use of FTP/FTPS.

FTP and FTPS are supported in all of the editions of CompleteFTP.

CompleteFTP's support for HTTP and HTTPS in both our Professional and Enterprise Editions enables users to transfer, share and manage their files via their web-browsers. CompleteFTP includes a responsive file-manager web-app that works on both desktop and mobile devices.

Opening up file transfer access to all your customers

Whether from a laptop or a smartphone, this really does open up file transfer access to all your customers or colleagues wherever they are based. Best of all, no software or plugin installs are required for end-users.

The ability to upload and download files, as well as sharing them with their colleagues via a web-link, are all included. The web-link can even be password protected to secure important documents from unauthorized access. Access via the web browser is simple and straight-forward, and after authenticating you can carry out a spectrum of various file transfer activities including uploading, downloading, and deleting files and directories.

For administrators, there is also a dedicated WebAdmin site for administration tasks where you can manage users and folders, and monitor activity.

The HTTP/HTTPS settings allow you to switch public access on or off, and a whole range of options grant the administrator a range of configuration capabilities including adding templates and changing ports. Limits and timeouts can also be set allowing you to limit the number of login attempts and maximum connections per user.

CompleteFTP offers direct SSH terminal access in our Professional and Enterprise MFT Editions. This allows users to log in to CompleteFTP from any command-line SSH client, on any system, whether UNIX, Windows or another operating system.

SSH gives you flexibility

Crucially, SSH connections are encrypted, guarding your security and privacy. For more advanced users, SSH also allows for the tunnelling of other protocols such as FTP, as well as protecting you from IP source routing, DNS and IP address spoofing and a host of other attacks. Administrators can even perform administrative tasks with SSH Terminal command-line administration (only available in our Enterprise Edition). The ‘help’ command lists all the available SSH commands.

CompleteFTP provides one of the best Windows SSH environments of any server.

SSH port forwarding (or SSH Tunnelling) is an extremely helpful feature that allows administrators to safely use insecure connections relying on protocols such as FTP or RDP. Once set up, the insecure protocols are 'tunnelled' through an SSH connection, which means they are safe from would-be attackers. Our Professional and Enterprise MFT Editions both offer this ‘best of both worlds’ capability.

CompleteFTP has a wide range of SSH capabilities

SSH forwarding is used in numerous corporate environments that employ mainframe systems as their application backends. In those environments, the applications themselves may have very limited native support for security. By utilizing tunnelling, compliance with SOX, HIPAA, PCI-DSS, and other standards can be attained without having to change the applications.

The other great advantage is that it reduces the headache network administrators have when it comes to configuring the firewall with all the different port requirements demanded by the various file transfer methods. Everything is reduced to using SSH port 22, vastly simplifying things.

CompleteFTP allows you to comfortably configure your settings to permit or ban your users from implementing SSH forwarding, and site-wide settings allow further modifications. With the wide range of SSH capabilities which CompleteFTP has to offer, there is no need to look any further.

CompleteFTP Professional and EnterpriseDT support file-sharing. Files may be shared either from within the Web file manager or using the CompleteBox Windows app. A shared file may be accessed via a web link and may optionally be protected with a password. The web link can be copied-and-pasted into an email or sent via IM, allowing the recipient to access the file. This is a fast and efficient way to share files of any size, including extremely large ones. Users don't even have to wait for the file to finish uploading before sharing the link, as CompleteFTP allows it to be downloaded as it's being uploaded.

CompleteBox, the perfect companion for CompleteFTP

Easy to install, CompleteBox allows users to share files by a simple drag-and-drop operation, file selection dialogue or via the Windows File Explorer. Sharing a file uploads it to your CompleteFTP server, and generates a link which can be sent to anyone who you wish to give access to the file - inside your organization or externally. The link can be password protected, enabling secure sharing when safekeeping is a priority.

CompleteBox is included with our Professional and Enterprise MFT Edition. It is installed independently on client machines. Our Professional Edition comes with 50 CompleteBox licenses included, whilst our Enterprise MFT Edition offers you 1000 licenses for you to distribute to your important clients.

Importantly, sharing links can be set to expire after a pre-set time period. CompleteBox is a very useful addition to CompleteFTP and makes it definitely worth upgrading to the Professional or Enterprise MFT Edition.

Our protocol translating gateway is an extremely powerful feature that enables communication between systems using dissimilar file-transfer protocols. With this feature, available only in our Enterprise MFT Edition, you can configure CompleteFTP to present any of its own protocols to a client, whilst translating them to a different protocol so that it can communicate to another server on your local network:

Set up CompleteFTP to proxy the requests

From connecting an office or home intranet to the Internet, to implementing a proxy solution and a firewall in your Enterprise environment, this feature opens up multiple possibilities. For example you have customers, clients or users who are still using FTP or FTPS legacy clients but wish to connect to your SFTP server, all you need to do is to set up CompleteFTP to proxy the requests:

Or maybe your venture still runs older legacy FTP/FTPS servers but you wish to permit SFTP clients to connect, then simply get CompleteFTP to proxy the requests:

The same can be done with HTTP clients adding yet more customer beneficial connectivity to your business. All of this can save you time and money as you attempt to be as user friendly as you can with the minimum of fuss.

Our Gateway feature helps to set our Enterprise MFT Edition apart from many other similar applications, and it can also help you to improve your service and availability to customers while cutting back on expenditure at the same time! Don’t miss out on this great function.

Every edition of CompleteFTP can be used with an unlimited number of users. CompleteFTP grows with your business. As you require more users - you are able to add them at no extra cost. All editions include non-windows users which you can configure at your will. Additionally all of our paid editions include adding Windows users.

Adding, configuring and arranging user access

You can add, modify and delete users at will, and assign them to groups in order to keep tabs on the permissions which they are assigned as they access your server. CompleteFTP Professional and Enterprise MFT both support the Automatic Windows Users (AWU) feature. This allows the administrator to enable login of any Windows user (including AD users) without having to manually add the user to CompleteFTP's internal user list. It is a real admin time saver:

In our Professional and Enterprise MFT Editions you can also support users that are configured in an external database. If you choose Enterprise MFT, you can even configure gateway users or allow users to authenticate with Single Sign-on via SAML. Enterprise MFT also allows you to build your own custom authentication module.

All editions include non-windows users which you can configure as required.

An important feature of CompleteFTP is its seamless integration with Windows Active Directory, offered in our Professional and Enterprise MFT Editions. This is fundamental for businesses whose extended network comprises thousands of users, all of whom require secure authentication and authorization via a layer of various permissions.

Automatic Windows Users

Since a corporation's Active Directory may contain many thousands of users, it is important to be able to configure CompleteFTP to allow these users to login without explicitly adding each user to its internal user list. The Automatic Windows feature allows any Windows or Active Directory user to log in without having to do so, as shown below.

Whether Insurance, IT, Banking, Retail or Building - CompleteFTP's Active Directory integration will help your team to keep your business moving forward with ease through its user friendly interface.

CompleteFTP Enterprise MFT Edition supports Two Factor Authentication (2FA) through the use of Google's free Google Authenticator app and other compatible applications. It can be enabled by checking a single checkbox. Once enabled, web users will be required to install the app and activate the site before they can access CompleteFTP via HTTP/HTTPS. 2FA is not currently supported in protocols other than HTTP and HTTPS. It is, however, compatible with all authenticators available in CompleteFTP, such as SAML, Active Directory, external database and custom authenticators.

2FA invokes the security principle of 'something you know and something you have'. The 'something you know' is your password and the 'something you have' is a device that generates One-Time Passwords (OTPs). With CompleteFTP's 2FA, the device is a mobile phone (Android or iPhone) that has the free Google Authenticator app installed, and the OTPs are 6-digit PINs that change every 30 seconds. The trick is that only Google's server and each specific instance of the app know the value of the PIN at any given time, so if the correct PIN is entered then we can trust that the user has the phone on which the app is installed. The PIN synchronization between the server and the phone is done by scanning a QR code that's generated by Google and scanned by the app. Each QR code is unique to the specific logged-in user on the site.

Once 2FA has been enabled by the admin users will have to go through an additional step after entering their user-name and password before they can enter the site.

In today's tech environment, internal corporate databases often hold the details of users. CompleteFTP Professional and Enterprise Editions allow easy integration of these external database users without having to import them into CompleteFTP.

CompleteFTP offers powerful database flexibility

A range of different database are supported. A choice of default database connection types can be chosen from, including Odbc, OleDb, SQL Server, SQL Server Compact 4.0 and SQL Server Compact 3.5. If the database type required is not listed, as long as an ADO.NET driver is available, it can be loaded and used.

CompleteFTP is highly customizable. If you need to modify its functionality for your business requirements, extensions can be coded in any .NET languages and incorporated into the server in the Enterprise MFT Edition. .NET Extension types include:

Our powerful extensions capability opens up a world of possibilities including:

You can even call into .NET from JSS thus offering wide extensibility to the JSS platform.

SAML is a single sign-on standard that is widely used and implemented by CompleteFTP Enterprise MFT. It means that users need to sign-in only once, to a server known as the Identity Provider (IDP). A service provider (SP) that requires users to be authenticated can set up a trust relationship with an IDP, and the IDP tells the SP that a user is permitted to login.

Delegate Authentication of Users

CompleteFTP Enterprise MFT can be configured as a SAML SP (Service Provider). It can delegate authentication to a IDP but it can't itself act as an IDP. One IDP that has been tested with CompleteFTP is OneLogin.

A helpful feature for managing user accounts is the ability to set an expiry date for an account. By default, user accounts never expire, but this can be easily changed. Once the expiry date has passed, access to the user account is disabled. This means that when server administrators are notified that someone is leaving the organization, they can set the expiry date to their leaving date. This is also useful for creating temporary test accounts.

Another helpful capability available only in our Professional and Enterprise MFT Editions is the Folder Tree File feature. CompleteFTP has the ability to obtain the listing of an entire folder tree in a single operation. These saves having to recurse through the folder tree, which can be very time-consuming.

This feature was developed in cooperation with the developers of SyncBack Pro/SE, which uses it to speed up synchronization.

Another important feature of our Professional and Enterprise MFT Editions of CompleteFTP is the ability for administrators to set disk quotas and bandwidth limits for their users. This allows you to protect your business resources such as storage space and network bandwidth. Setting disk quotas helps to prevent malicious users from crashing servers by uploading large quantities of data. Bandwidth quotas help prevent individual users from tying up network bandwidth.

Upload and download bandwidth limits are set in kilobytes/second (kB/s). Limits apply per site (so that in the Enterprise MFT Edition, if a user is enabled on multiple sites then their total bandwidth is [number of sites] x [set bandwidth]).

CompleteFTP uses a virtual file system, which means administrators can build their own view of what the file system should be on top of a range of different physical file systems such as disks and network folders.

CompleteFTP file system can be customized to suit your business

The flexibility of virtual folders means that the CompleteFTP file system can be configured for your business requirements. The following folder types are supported:

CompleteFTP also allows macros to be inserted into the name of any folder in the virtual file-system for automatic substitutions. A common case where this may be useful is in setting the name of the home-folder of Automatic Windows Users, such that the user-name matches the name of the folder that they see when they log in.

Each folder can be configured with a whole range of permissions as well as being able to set virtual folder permissions independently from windows folders which are allocated their own permissions at the windows directory level. Permissions for users logging in via their Windows account may optionally be controlled by Windows.

CompleteFTP comes with a rich file permissions structure that can be configured exactly as required. Having secure file permissions in place is essential to ensure that only those authorized to access certain folders and files are able to do so. Directory and file permissions help restrict access through our flexible folder properties panel, allowing our virtual file system to set permissions or alternatively for your Windows folders, allowing Windows permissions to take precedent.

Access control can even be transferred from Windows to CompleteFTP so that Windows permissions can be set using CompleteFTP non-Windows permissions. Access control for Windows users can be managed by CompleteFTP if the access control property of those users has been manually set to 'non-Windows'. It's also possible to restrict users to read-only access by setting the read-only property of those users.

The permission system is similar to that used in UNIX-like systems, such as Linux and OSX. This system brings with it flexibility, simplicity and familiarity. Below you can see the range of options for setting permissions for non-Windows users:

You can even hide folders using the hidden checkbox, so that a folder may be shown but not accessible, or it may be hidden but still accessible.

CompleteFTP's multiprotocol gateway has already been described here. It enables legacy servers to be accessed using secure protocols such as SFTP and is only available in Enterprise MFT. The gateway has several other features that can be extremely useful to advanced users.

Gateway Folders

A gateway folder is a directory on a different server to the current CompleteFTP server instance. It is basically a remotely mounted directory (analogous to a network share). Unlike normal network shares, gateway folders are specified by protocol - either FTP, FTPS or SFTP. This means that a remote folder from an SFTP or FTPS server can be accessed by logged in users, as if it were a local folder on the CompleteFTP server. Find out more about how you can use Gateway Folders.

Gateway Users

Gateway users are users who are authenticated by a different server - often residing in a different location. They permit the login of any user located on a remote machine (rather than the current machine), without having to manually add each user to CompleteFTP. The remote users must be accessible via FTP, FTPS or SFTP on the remote machine. When the user details are received in CompleteFTP, a login attempt to the remote server is attempted using the supplied credentials.

An increasingly popular feature is the capability to mount Azure Share folders in the virtual file-system CompleteFTP Enterprise MFT. Azure Files is a Microsoft service that offers network drives hosted in the Azure Cloud Computing Platform.

Virtual File-System

Azure Share folders are added to CompleteFTP's virtual file-system in the same way as other folders in the filesystem. It is a great asset for anyone who works with Azure. Our easy-to-use dialogue box will guide you through the process, you just have to enter the account name, access key and the name of the share. You may also specify a directory within the share.

Companies increasingly choose to store their files in the cloud. CompleteFTP integrates seamlessly with the Microsoft Azure and Amazon AWS cloud storage solutions. You can read more about our integration with Azure in a separate article.

Mounted like any other folder

Users of CompleteFTP Enterprise MFT are able to mount Amazon S3 buckets (storage containers) in CompleteFTP's virtual file-system. This allows users have seamless access to S3 buckets in the same way that any other folder is accessed. No knowledge of S3 is required.

Navigate through your server-side ZIP files with our powerful ZIP file navigation feature available with our CompleteFTP Professional and Enterprise Editions. When enabled, ZIP files are presented to users as ordinary folders, allowing them to change into folders within the ZIP file, and download specific files.

Often, server administrators wish to prevent certain file types from being uploaded, such as executables. CompleteFTP offers a filename blocking filter that allows administrators to specify regular expressions that identify banned file names (or permitted file names). This also applies to renaming of files, to prevent users uploading files with innocuous names and renaming them to banned names.

HTTP / HTTPS

CompleteFTP's support for HTTP and HTTPS in both our Professional and Enterprise Editions enables users to transfer, share and manage their files via their web-browsers. CompleteFTP includes a responsive file-manager web-app that works on both desktop and mobile devices.

Opening up file transfer access to all your customers

Whether from a laptop or a smartphone, this really does open up file transfer access to all your customers or colleagues wherever they are based. Best of all, no software or plugin installs are required for end-users.

The HTTP/HTTPS settings allow you to switch public access on or off, and a whole range of options grant the administrator a range of configuration capabilities including adding templates and changing ports. Limits and timeouts can also be set allowing you to limit the number of login attempts and maximum connections per user.

CompleteFTP users can manage their files in their account on the server using SFTP or FTPS clients, depending on what protocols the server administrator has configured. A much more convenient way is via the File Manager web application, which can be accessed like any website, from a phone or desktop browser. This is only available in the Professional or Enterprise MFT Editions.

Customizable

CompleteFTP's web file manager is written in Javascript, and can easily be modified by customers to incorporate their own logos, or even to enhance its functionality.

Users can use the ‘drag and drop’ method to upload files, simply drag your file or folder across to the web browser window and click upload. Zip files can be uploaded, and you can navigate the contents of a zip file with ease by enabling our Zip File Navigation capability.

CompleteFTP's Enterprise MFT Edition offers extensive customization through Javascript extensions that are hosted on the server (JSS). Users can write their own code to enhance or change CompleteFTP's capabilities to suit their business needs.

Customization

With JSS extensions, users can:

File Sharing

CompleteFTP Professional and EnterpriseDT support file-sharing. Files may be shared either from within the Web file manager or using the CompleteBox Windows app. A shared file may be accessed via a web link and may optionally be protected with a password. The web link can be copied-and-pasted into an email or sent via IM, allowing the recipient to access the file. This is a fast and efficient way to share files of any size, including extremely large ones. Users don't even have to wait for the file to finish uploading before sharing the link, as CompleteFTP allows it to be downloaded as it's being uploaded.

Our protocol translating gateway is an extremely powerful feature that enables communication between systems using dissimilar file-transfer protocols. With this feature, available only in our Enterprise MFT Edition, you can configure CompleteFTP to present any of its own protocols to a client, whilst translating them to a different protocol so that it can communicate to another server on your local network.

In today’s pressurised admin office, keeping informed and staying in touch with what is happening on your systems is essential. For the security minded administrator logging events is a top priority. That is why we knew that including these fantastic capabilities would make your lives just that little bit easier.

Highly Customizable Notifications

CompleteFTP Professional and Enterprise MFT Editions both offer these valuable features. Our excellent software supports highly customizable email event notifications, as well as allowing events to be triggered according to a user-specified schedule. You can configure email notifications and carry out operations based on server events. The following events can be used to trigger an important email alert:

Of course you also have the ability to automate events to suit your needs and events can even be used to run different plugins which then carry out other functions! CompleteFTP also supports ‘Scheduled Events’ where processes are triggered according to your desired preset timetable. This schedule may consist of a sequence of specific times or of a repeated pattern. It includes three ways to define a pattern: by even time intervals, by days of the week or by a cron expression.

One of our most powerful features is the ability to set process triggers for numerous events in CompleteFTP. This exceptional capability offers some of the best configuration modifications available with a file transfer server. You will need either our CompleteFTP Professional or Enterprise MFT Edition in order to take advantage of this feature.

Highly Customizable Process Triggers

The highly customizable process trigger interface allows you to set up triggers for a range of different events including the following:

Events can be filtered by folder or user. The trigger can be set to run a program or a script including, Batch, Powershell, JSS or FTP scripts. You can also set the maximum number of concurrent processes, and the maximum run time.

IP Filtering and Auto-Banning are essential tools in keeping out unwanted visitors to your site and are supported in the Professional and Enterprise MFT Editions.

Auto-Banning

Auto-Banning works by automatically banning IP addresses from connecting (for a pre-configured period of time) if they have failed to authenticate a certain number of times within a time period. Except in the Standard Edition, these details can be configured to suit customer preferences.

Currently banned IP addresses can be viewed in the monitoring tab of CompleteFTP's manager application.

IP-Filtering

CompleteFTP has a very configurable IP Filtering interface, shown below.

When it comes to authentication we like to offer our customers as many options as possible. CompleteFTP Professional and Enterprise MFT Editions already come with predefined Database, Windows, Gateway, and SAML authenticators. To add even more flexibility we introduced .NET authentication extensions. You can use this extension to implement any authentication scheme.

How .NET Extensions Work

The server calls methods in your class to find out whether or not a particular username/password combination or user/public key combination is valid. Your class can do whatever it needs to do to work out whether or not it is valid, such as calling a web service or invoking an RPC (Remote Procedure Call). This is how .NET extensions work in a nutshell.

The versatility of this feature makes CompleteFTP the perfect choice for integrating their file transfer infrastructure with other systems.

Our best selling CompleteFTP file transfer server is designed to provide cryptographic excellence in a world fraught with digital peril. Our developers have created a world ranking product which follows the highest cryptographic standards. Whether you are aiming to secure your company network for safe use by your employees, or whether you simply wish to provide secure communication and negotiation with your business clients or customers, you can rest assured that we are updating our product regularly with the latest algorithms, ciphers and key exchange methods. If you are using HTTPS, FTPS or SFTP our product has your security in mind.

Our development team are constantly monitoring changes in the latest cryptographic and encryption standards, and upgrading our software to keep pace with modern developments.

We pride ourselves on making your admin experience as straightforward and logical as possible, and our cryptographic configuration is no exception.

An important feature for servers supporting file transfer is the ability to log user activity for security auditing. Audit logging is available in CompleteFTP Professional and Enterprise Editions.

Audit logging is easily configured through the audit log interface shown below. The audit logs that are produced can be inspected and monitored, allowing administrators to keep track of user logins and logouts, and which files are being transferred and their sizes. The log files are produced in a standard format, allowing scripts to be easily written for analysis or for generating alerts.

SSL/TLS certificates are the most common and trusted method of validating trust on the Internet. It's no exaggeration to say that the entire e-commerce world is built on this technology. The most common use-case is for a client to be allowed to trust a server based on the fact that the server is able to prove that it has a valid certificate. Less common is for the server to require that clients prove their identity through the use of client certificates. CompleteFTP supports both cases; the former in HTTPS and FTPS and the latter in FTPS. As well as the ability to import, view and export certificates, it also offers the generation of self-signed certificates and certificate requests (CSRs).

Of course insisting on a client certificate provides you at the server end, with a higher degree of safeguarding for your file transfer requests, and with our higher end editions you will be more than adequately covered with the advantage of knowing that the client certificate option is protecting your server.

Publicly available servers need to have an SSL/TLS certificate from a recognized Certification Authority (CA) installed. CompleteFTP makes it straightforward to generate a request for a certificate that will be accepted by all recognized CAs. Once you have complied with their requirements, they will supply you with your certificate, which is easily installed into CompleteFTP.

All CompleteFTP editions offer the ability to generate certificate requests. For testing purposes, we also offer the option of generating self-signed certificates within the CompleteFTP manager.

In today's world, encryption of company data is a necessity. Secure file transfer protocols such as SFTP are vital for encrypting your data 'on the wire' as it passes through networks, and possibly the Internet. However, just as important as securing your data in transit is securing your data when stored on your server. This means that if an attacker gains access to your server, your crucial data cannot be viewed or used. This is done by using CompleteFTP’s Encryption at Rest (EAR) capability.

Automatic Encryption

EAR is yet another great reason to choose our top of the range Enterprise Edition. All files transferred to your server for users who have EAR enabled will be automatically encrypted as they are written onto the server file system. Users directly logged onto the server machine will not be able to decrypt the files. The encryption used is 128 bit AES, which ensures security for your user’s files. Only administrators will be able to decrypt the files. When the files are downloaded by user with permission to access them, they are automatically decrypted, so as far as users are concerned, EAR is invisible.

Security is a critical concern when it comes to file transfers of confidential corporate data. We are constantly updating CompleteFTP with security updates and patches in order to keep pace with ever-changing security threats and vulnerabilities.

Robust Security Options

CompleteFTP has a broad range of security features and options that allow administrators to control

In today's challenging environment, CompleteFTP comes prepared to thwart attackers seeking to compromise your systems and your data. Whatever your desired security level, CompleteFTP can be configured to meet your business requirements.

Clustering, load-balancing and fail-over

One of our most powerful features is the capability of CompleteFTP to integrate with your server clustering, failover, redundancy and load balancing requirements.

CompleteFTP Clustering

Available with our CompleteFTP Enterprise Edition. our clustering support provides synchronized server configurations across the cluster. Typical deployment architecture is an active/active cluster setup. A single instance of the CompleteFTP Manager can control all the servers in the cluster. An architecture diagram is shown below:

When server administrators wish to change the server configuration, these changes are propagated to every machine in the cluster. As most clusters use shared network storage or separate file synchronization software or hardware, CompleteFTP does not currently synchronize files.

CompleteFTP Enterprise MFT supports what we call multiple sites. In CompleteFTP, a site is a related group of protocols listening on specific port numbers. A typical site might include HTTPS, FTPS and SFTP.

A common use for sites is to separate the internal network from the outside world. Typically, one site is configured for internal users, and another for external users, and the company firewall directs external users to the external site. This separation enables tighter security controls to be applied to external users without affecting internal users.

Informative user interface

CompleteFTP offers a dashboard style overview of the most important configuration settings, enabling you to quickly and effectively grasp how it is set up. Each panel within the overview is dedicated to a particular function such as user configuration.

Beyond the overview, the CompleteFTP manager offers detailed configuration capabilities, and this flexibility should satisfy most business scenarios. Each area of functionality has its own dedicated panel, and each individual setting has specific help text available to help users with their configuration choices.

Admin friendly overview

Our developers have put their many years of experience into developing a powerful management application that can remotely administer CompleteFTP servers. We welcome customer feedback and will do our best to implement features that our customers request.

One of the most administrator-friendly features of CompleteFTP is the capability to install the CompleteFTP Manager application on a separate machine to that of the server application. This allows remote administration of your CompleteFTP servers. The Manager can be installed on as many machines as you wish, in order to make life easier for your administration team. You can even install it outside the local network, allowing administrators to control CompleteFTP servers from home.

Excellent User-Friendly App

The Manager is a user-friendly app that lets you manage your CompleteFTP server securely and efficiently. It provides full control of every feature.

Once connected you will be greeted with a comprehensive overview of your server’s file transfer setup, including (dependent on edition) servers, sites, users, folders, and authenticators.

We have not left anything to chance, and if you prefer, we also offer the capability to manage your admin site via a web browser, using our Web Admin app. You can even connect using any SSH client and do command-line administration!

CompleteFTP has comprehensive monitoring and logging capabilities. Built with the needs of administrators in mind and puts the logging and monitoring demands of your business firmly into your hands. Below are just some of the many options available:

Real-time logging

With real-time logging capability at your fingertips, you can monitor your server’s file transfer activities with ease. You are able to filter a comprehensive log to only show the category, user or session, which you wish to oversee. You can even set the real-time logging level from all-inclusive to basic details by setting one of four levels: Error, Warning, Information or Debug.

Moving over to the ‘Log Files Tab’, here you are able to collate audit or diagnostic logs, an ideal feature which is very useful for support and troubleshooting purposes. Here the server logging level can be set using one of 6 levels: off, error, warning, information, debug and all.

Performance statistics

The next tab is Connections and here you have the option to kill selected connections or all connections when necessary. Jumping over to the next tab we have Performance stats. Here you will see one of the most comprehensive and complete menus found in any file transfer server software. The menu allows you to filter the stats you need. Our Auto-ban tab lets you permanently ban selected IP Addresses, as well as remove any auto-bans which you wish to lift. Finally, we have our TCP Port usage tab. An essential tool for monitoring which processes are tying up your port range.

All editions include monitoring capabilities, but for the most comprehensive feature set, consider our Professional or Enterprise MFT edition.

CompleteFTP Professional and Enterprise MFT Editions provide administrators with an admin web application. While not a replacement for the CompleteFTP Manager application, which is installed on Windows machines, the admin web app allows the control of day-to-day admin tasks from anywhere, including a cell phone.

Our technical support is highly rated by our customers. Each license purchased comes with one year of technical support and software updates included. After the first year, you have the option to renew - it is not compulsory, and your CompleteFTP license will not expire if you do not renew. If you later realize that you require the latest edition of the software, or require technical support, we will happily renew it again for you.
